PosturingTo stand or kneel or lay down flat I’m not sure what to think of that. There’s lots of folks who want to shout, The President has tweeted out, That we must stand with our heads bare
While the band is playing there And someone’s belting out the song That echoes out across the throng. That’s the way that I was raised, When the country’s being praised You stand and listen to the song And if you’re able, sing along. Lately some have tried to say “I’m sad about the USA”. And so they drop upon one knee Out in front for all to see. It’s interesting the gesture used To protest what they think abused. If you’re a Brit and meet the Queen Upon one knee you’re often seen. The most respect that you can show Is one knee high and one knee low. The favored way to win a wife, That you will love for all your life, Is getting down upon just one And hoping that her heart is won. So take a breath and think about What’s happening before you shout. Listen to what’s being said Before your heart aborts your head. Some think things are going wrong With the country in the song And so have chosen to protest In the way they think is best, Without a fist, without a shout, Without a shot, or striking out, But quietly upon one knee While out in front for all to see. Aren’t there things that you would change If the rules you could arrange? Would you not get your message out If you could with a silent shout? And so while some are singing loud And others kneel before the crowd Yet others look around to see What of interest there could be. Some take selfies, stand and chat, Buy a T-shirt, buy a hat, Stand in line to buy a beer, Ignoring all that happens here. It never comes into their head To be concerned what’s sung, or said. I fear it’s worse to just ignore All that has gone on before. We will survive the things we see Destruction comes with apathy. Don’t fear the players kneeling there. Fear the folks who just don’t care.
