Three area residents have been named to the Michigan Sugar Co. Board of Directors — Clark Gerstacker from Midland, William Meylan of Auburn and Kenneth Kousky of Freeland.

“We are thrilled to have three board members — Gerstacker, Kousky and Meylan — representing this region,” said Rob Clark, director of communications and community relations for Michigan Sugar. “They help ensure we are getting the most up-to-date information from our fields and about our crop and they serve as excellent ambassadors for Michigan Sugar in their communities and beyond.”

Gerstacker will also serve as board secretary.

“We are also pleased to welcome Mr. Gerstacker to the board’s lineup of officers,” Clark added. “He is a well-respected farmer and leader in the field of agriculture and we look forward to having him in this elevated position of leadership.”

Meylan joined the board in September and is completing an open two-year term.

Richard Gerstenberger of Snover was elected chairman while Richard Bauer of Reese will takeover as vice chairman. The treasurer’s position will go to Mark Richards of Dresden, Ontario.

“Michigan Sugar Co. is fortunate to have strong representation on our Board of Directors from communities across the state,” Clark said. “Our grower owners plant and harvest sugar beets in 19 Michigan counties and Ontario, so it is important our board members come from areas representing our company’s footprint, which includes the Great Lakes Bay Region.”
