CSC Sugar Challenges U.S.-Mexico Sugar Suspension Agreement
Published January 25, 2019
An East Coast sugar trading company, CSC Sugar, claims the Commerce Department failed to disclose ex parte meetings between Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross and competing sugar refineries before making a deal in 2017 with Mexico to manage sugar imports. Commerce Department documents show the meetings took place, but there no written summary of the discussion. CSC Sugar claims the Commerce Department did not act in accordance to the law and the U.S.-Mexico sugar suspension agreement should be vacated.
