The Sugar Industry Spokeswomen will have a booth at the 56th International Sugarbeet Institute show at the Alerus Center March 14-15. The main objective of the booth will be to help others learn how to become advocates for sugar, sugarbeets, and biotechnology. Laura Rutherford of the Red River Valley Sugarbeet Growers Association, Kathryn Cayko of Sidney Sugars, and Nancy Wulfkuhle and Megan Klosterman of Minn-Dak Farmers Cooperative will all be available at the booth over the two-day event.
“We will be there to address misinformation and myths about the role sugar plays in nutrition and in our diet,” said Rutherford. “We have some really great handouts from Dr. Courtney Gaine of The Sugar Association to help people learn how to have conversations about sugar and GMOs.” The goal of the spokeswoman group is to help others become confident in discussing our industry to others whether its in person or on social media. “Every one of us needs to get active about advocating for what we do and for our industry,” stated Rutherford. “Come hangout with us at the booth and we will get you what you need to know so you can feel certain speaking to others about these topics. We want to be a resource to help absolutely everyone involved with sugarbeets to be a spokesperson and be an advocate for the industry.” The spokeswomen will also have coloring books for all ages related to sugar and sugarbeets, as well as interactive games and prizes.
