USDA-ERS’ estimate of 2014/15 U.S. total sugar supply was raised by 190,000 short tons, raw value, in December from the November estimate. Total supply now stands at 13.919 million short tons, said the December Sugar and Sweeteners Outlook report.
The 190,000 tons were comprised of 145,000 STRV in Florida due to increased sugarcane yield and area; 3,000 STRV in Texas from higher expected yields; and 42,000 STRV in imports due to an expected increase from Mexico. “With no other changes, ending stocks increase by the supply increase and are now projected at 1.675 million STRV,” the report stated. That implies an ending stocks-to-use ratio of 13.7%.
